So far, the team behind Kendrick has been putting out some very high quality videos from good kid, m.A.A.d city. Not expensive, just thoughtfully and artfully executed. Rappers should take note, it’s not all about the budget. And as always with Kendrick, there’s a deeper meaning beneath the “surface” of the visual. Death to Molly.

Here are the tracks that were popping over the past week, in our humble opinion.

Hustle Gang – “Memories Back Then” (feat. T.I., B.o.B, Kendrick Lamar, & Kris Stephens)
The lone flame in a pretty lackluster week in hip-hop music. All three emcees really spit on this one, even B.o.B, who usually is hit-or-miss with me. Mostly miss. This is from the upcoming Grand Hustle/Hustle Gang compilation.

Ab-Soul “The End Is Near” (feat. Mac Miller)
2013 XXL Freshman and Black Hippy Ab-Soul kicks some pretty sick bars with Mac Miller over a simple beat by Larry Fisherman, who is also Mac Miller.

Chinx Drugz – “I’m A Cokeboy” (feat. French Montana, Rick Ross, Diddy)
Well, definitely not a new song, but a new video. And I’m sucker for this beat and the sample. Rick Ross’ moobs make a cameo, so there’s that to look forward to.

“No, seriously, bow down b*tches.”

In between Miley Cyrus’ gentrification of twerking, and Too Short’s (very) brief run from the LAPD, and the leak of Lil Wayne’s I’m Not a Good Rapper 2, there were some pretty big drops this week.

Beyonce – “Bow Down / “I Been On”

Mrs. Carter started the week off by dropping this out of nowhere and pretty much disrupted the flow of the universe. Queen Bey’s shoutout to Houston and use of the b-word whipped the internets into a frenzy of debate, over-analysis, feminist blog posts, and probably a doctoral thesis or two. In other words, par for the course for anything Beyonce does. Before the end the week, there is already talk of a remix with H-Town all-stars like, Bun-B, Slim Thug, and Scarface.

Black Milk – “Sunday’s Best, Monday’s Worst”

Detroit beat-smith and MC Black Milk, gets us ready for his next album, due this summer. This is real headphone-headbanger music. Eff yo Beats by Dre’s. Don’t sleep on this guy.

Kendrick Lamar – “B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe” (remix feat. Jay-Z)

My first bad-grammered thought was, “this song don’t need no remix.” But SON…Not only do we get a quality verse from Hov, but two new stunning verses from Kendrick. K-dot obviously did not want folks saying he got ‘murdered on his own s**t.’ That didn’t stop the debate, though. I’m not touching it. Nice touch using a pic of Jordan and Kobe as the cover art.

Damn you, Drake.

Kendrick Lamar drops the visuals for his latest single from good kid, m.A.A.d City. It continues the “just another day in Compton” story as told on the album itself. There’s Crenshaw, and lots of negroes on Crenshaw, and I guess there’s a drive-by or whatever. But you’ll forget about all that because Drake disrupts the video with this:
Yeah the same picture from above. Did you miss it? Here it is again: The Comptonian imagery picks back up after Drake’s verse, but it’s too late. The image (I won’t post it again, you get it) is seared onto my retinas.

You can watch the full, entire, complete thing here. Seriously, it’s a pretty cool video.

Nice, soulful head-nodder, produced by Symbolic One. Nice visuals, too. We see Curren$y’s New Orleans, Kweli’s B.K./N.Y. and Kendrick Lamar’s L.A./Compton. Prisoner of Conscious due in October.

Holy. Hell.
K. Lamar stops by the Cosmic Kev show on Philly’s Power 99 to again show why he is one of the best doing it right now. Some of the lines are so slick, I don’t think regular ninjas will catch it until the 5th listen. He sets up punch lines from 3-4 bars away. Delivery is bananas. Stop reading. Listen now.

UPDATE

The new date for Take Care is November 15th, 2011. I managed to create this album in my hometown of Toronto and the thoughts and stories I wanted to get across just became so clear. It truly felt like when I was here 3 years ago making So Far Gone.

So I have completed 19 songs (17 on physical and 2 on bonus), and have run into a roadblock of clearing 3 samples in time to make the October 24th date. My options were to take the songs off and make the birthday release happen, or to take an extra couple weeks to get the paper work right and give you the album they way I NEED you to hear it.

The choice was clear as day for me. November 15th you will get Take Care the exact way I created it with no trimmings. This music means too much to me to get attached to dates and I do apologize for the delay but I promise that it is only for the benefit of our experience together.

Club Paradise Tour will also be moved to when students are back from the Christmas/New Year break so that I can get to more schools. New dates will be released in the next week…see you all soon.
