MUSICandMODELING.com: For the people who aren't familiar with you, how would you describe your music?
Leah Martin: Sensual in an elegant way, mystical, and crazy FREE….
MUSICandMODELING.com: How do you get in the mood to write and perform?
Leah Martin: Writing just comes naturally, you can’t ever “try,” you know? I just simply open my heart and am honest with what comes out. To perform I meditate, drink hot water with lemon and honey, and connect to the present moment.
MUSICandMODELING.com: Describe a typical day in the life of Leah Martin?
Leah Martin: Meditation, kriyas, yoga, guitar, vocal exercise, reading, and writing… Those are the constants. Everything else ranges from a press conference, going to the recording studio, to working in an orphanage. Each day is a gift that I welcome with an open heart.
MUSICandMODELING.com: In your opinion, how has the music scene changed over the years?
Leah Martin: Labels used to sign talent and develop them. Now they expect you to already be touring with lots of fans. Also, the digital world has grown tremendously.
MUSICandMODELING.com: If you could change one thing about the music scene what would it be?
Leah Martin: Mainstream radio selection.
MUSICandMODELING.com: In your history of making music do you have a favorite song? Why?
Leah Martin: My favorite song is always the one I’m working on at that specific time because I put my entire being into the work. Now it’s JUMP IN, a song I just finished. My favorite song that I didn’t write is Here Comes the Sun, by George Harrison because it feels and describes how I live my life, and view the world.
MUSICandMODELING.com: Describe your most memorable performance?
Leah Martin: In Kerala, India onstage when I realized that I had just had a dream that was exactly where I was. The dream was that I was spreading peace, surrounded by yellow flowers, with a translator, and wearing a white dress… I was in the middle of a song called, Listen, when I realized my dream was coming true, and I looked down to see I was wearing a white dress, in front of me a translator and the International audience were all wearing yellow.
MUSICandMODELING.com: What advice would you give to up-and-coming vocal artists?
Leah Martin: BE YOURSELF. Don’t compromise. Practice, and use the gifts that you have been given for humanity.
