J. Smith

MUSICandMODELING.com: Describe a typical day in the life of J. Smith.
Jessica Smith: Everyday I am constantly doing something different. Most recently I've been waking up at 3am everyday to go to set and film. After that I usually either go to rehearsal for shows or I'll go to the studio to work with my producers on my album. And in between that I'm doing interviews and meetings...lol. I've been doing a lot of photoshoots lately for different magazines. I also have a lot of shows. I recently performed at Six Flags so I have a lot of rehearsals and dancers for that. It's exciting!

MUSICandMODELING.com: How would you describe your music for those who aren't yet familiar with you?
Jessica Smith: It's very pop. A little bit of urban as far as the tracks go but it's very danceable at the same time. A lot of people say it's like a cross between Madonna meets Rhianna meets Brittany.

MUSICandMODELING.com: Is there anything you would like your listeners to take from your music?
Jessica Smith: First of all, I try to make my tracks very catchy because a lot of my performances are inside a club. So I always want to make sure my tracks are ready for radio and clubs. As far as lyrics a lot of them are from life experiences. It's good for me because I get my emotions out but at the same time I hope that it's something my listeners can relate to.

MUSICandMODELING.com: How do you get in the mood to write?
Jessica Smith: When I with my producers we'll go through different tracks. It's kind of whatever jumps out to me at that moment. I would say it the tracks that sets the mood for me or if it's something that's really on my mind then I'll go through the tracks to find something that fits.

MUSICandMODELING.com: How do you get in the mood to perform?
Jessica Smith: It's actually crazy because the stage is more my home than anything. When I'm on stage is when I feel the most comfortable. There's not really anything that gets me in the mood to be on stage I always want to be on stage...lol I guess that's what drives me to do everything because I love being on stage. J. Smith

MUSICandMODELING.com: Your bio mentioned that you studied performing arts in high school. Do you apply a lot of what you learned to what you do now?
Jessica Smith: I would say that high school prepared me. Although, it's completely different in it's own elements as well. That's where I really got the training for it. Theatre is completely different when you're actually in front of the camera than filming. When you're acting on stage it's a lot bigger and more exagerated than when you're performing in front of a camera, which is a lot more toned down. I also sang is church choir when I was in high school and that definitely helped me with my singing help train my voice because I was singing songs that I wouldn't normally sing now. In church music there's such a wide range where you hit so many different notes so that definitely helped me.

MUSICandMODELING.com: Do you have a most memorable performing experience.
Jessica Smith: Oh my gosh, there's so many. I would say one of the most exciting things I got to do so far is go to Albania and compete in the Ms. Globe International pageant because I held the United States title. while I was over there they asked me to sing on international television in front of 127 million people in 27 countries which was broadcast live. That was pretty amazing...lol

MUSICandMODELING.com: Do you have any negative experiences?
Jessica Smith: When I was 18 right before everthing really started launching, I got hit by a drunk driver. He was driving the wrong way on the freeway and I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and down for 10 months and it completely put my career on hold. That was really hard for me just because I thought I wasn't going to be able to perform again. But I have God in my life so I turned that negative situatation and just kept walking strong with my faith. Basically it led me to where I am right now. But at the time it was very difficult and I didn't think I would be able to recover from it.

MUSICandMODELING.com: If there was anything you could change about the industry what would it be?
Jessica Smith: I feel like a lot of the younger artists get taken advantage of in the industry. Thank God I'm with a great team, who is like my family, that takes care of me. When you're first starting out you need to see through people and have a good team around you. I guess the main thing is you have to find out who's real and who's not.

MUSICandMODELING.com: What's in your cd player right now?

Jessica Smith: A christian rock band called called Mercy Me. Completely different from the style of music I do. When I was in my car accident is actually when I discovered there music and they have this song called "I Can Only Imagine" and it's one of my favorite songs. It's so beautiful and it really helped me get through everything that I was going through and I love them.

MUSICandMODELING.com: What other talents do you have besides singing and performing?
Jessica Smith: I would say singing, writing, performing... I model and act as well. Those are the main things.

MUSICandMODELING.com: What advice would you give up and coming recording artists?
Jessica Smith: I would say the number one thing is you have to stay motivated and driven because it could take years before you get to where you want to be. For example, Plain White Tees had a single that's huge now but they have been in the industry forever before that they were discovered. So I would say the main the main thing is you have to stay dedicated and as long as you stay driven and keep pushing you can get to where you want to be.
