Calvin RichardsonQ. How would you describe Calvin Richardson?
A. I would describe myself as the guy next door that loves to sing. Although I’m a hard worker and run my own record label (NuMo Records) with 11 employees, I’m very down to earth and love people and life.

Q. When did you know you wanted to be a musician?
A. I never knew I wanted to be a musician, I just love music of all kind and I’ve been singing since I was a child; so it was a natural progression from doing it for fun to doing it for a living.

Q. How do you get in the mood to write and perform?
A. I get in the mood to write a song in different ways; sometimes by listening to music or picking up the guitar stroking out a couple chords or sitting at the piano messing around and sometimes it comes from a simple conversation. Give me a mic and I’m ready to perform anytime

Q. Describe a typical day in the life of Calvin Richardson?
A. A typical day in the life of Calvin Richardson; well I start my day off by calling my son Souljah (5 years old), see how he’s doing and what his day will consist of, that takes about 20 minutes. Then I gotta get some food up in me after a good hot shower. Then I head to my office and get on the phone to check in on my business, get with my assistant to check my schedule for the day. I usually try to get everything out of the way by 3 p.m. so I’m free to go to the studio or to have some fun.

Q. In your opinion, how has the music scene changed throughout the years?
A. Over the past few years I’ve been around I have seen the music industry change a good bit. When I came on the scene it was about music and R & B. The rappers use to have to get singers on their songs to make them jump off. Now it’s the total opposite. What goes around comes back around.

Q. If you could change one thing about the music scene what would it be?
A. If I could change one thing about the music industry I would change the way music is formatted. If it’s good let it play baby!

Q. In your history of making music do you have a favorite song? Why?
A. I don’t really have a favorite song that I wrote. They all are near and dear to me. Every word came from the heart to express something I had experienced prior or was going through.

Q. Describe your most memorable performance?
A. I’ve been on big stages with the likes of Nelly to Michael Jackson but my most memorable show to date was in Decatur, Alabama in 2006 at a small 300 capacity venue where I had headlined the bill to a sold out crowd of 90% women that knew every word to every song I sang from “Country Boy” & “2:35 p.m.” That was amazing to me, I’ll never forget it!

Calvin Richardson Q. What advice would you give to up-and-coming vocal artists?
A. My advice to any and all up and coming artist is “Develop your own identity, know who you are as a singer/performer and work hard to perfect your craft and when you know you’re ready showcase your gift and don’t take no for the answer. If anyone tells you no after you know you’re ready, what they are really trying to say is they are not ready for you.”

Q. what's in your CD player right now?
A. Right now what is in my CD player is Al Green and I’m loving it! I have some Musiq Soul Child, Algebra (who I think is amazing) and Keisha Cole.

Q. What other talents do you have besides singing?
A. My other talents besides singing are; well I play guitar, drums, a little bass guitar and I ride the hell out of a motorcycle…lol! I could go on but that’s enough about me…

Q. Final thoughts on our site or what's on your mind?

A. In closing I want my fans and the readers to know that it feels great to be back. I’m a man of choice words and I have a lot more to say! After being gone off the music scene for 5 years I realized “Silence doesn’t work for ME.”
