A little something different this week. Less of the the rappity-rap, and more of the R and the B.

Ciara – “Body Party Remix” (Feat. Future and B.o.B)
Producer Mike Will Made It speeds up the original Ghost Town DJs sample and adds some struggle bars from Future and B.o.B.

The Weeknd – “Kiss Land”
The first single from the upcoming album, also titled Kiss Land. This is the dark, slightly trippy, acid-R&B you’d expect from The Weekend, but it sounds a bit more polished than earlier efforts, like House of Balloons. Halfway through, the track blends into the more subtle “John Carpenter.”

Kelly Rowland – “Dirty Laundry”
Probably the most buzzed-about song of the week. This one has Kelly baring her soul about living in Beyonce’s shadow while dealing with physical abuse from an ex.

Audio: Wu-Tang Clan – “Execution in Autumn”

Without much fanfare, RZA’s Soul Temple Records released this song today on it’s bandcamp page(available for purchase). Not much is known about it, except that is “previously unreleased,” which suggests it is an older track(maybe). So it may not appear on the upcoming Wu album in July. Regardless of where it ends up, Deck, Raekwon, RZA, and U-God all hold it down. Wu-banga.

New Music We Missed This Week (week ending 05/05/13)

Okay, I know I say this every week, but it WAS a very interesting week. We had the loss of a notable member of the ’90s hip-hop era. We had another major artist lose another major corporate sponsorship. We also had a handful of solid mixtapes, including Chance The Rapper and J.Cole. And Kanye tweeted you guys! In between all of that, some pretty major singles dropped:

Rick Ross – “Box Chevy”
Despite an eventful recent history that included health issues, an assassination attempt, and controversy over lyrical content, Rawse keeps chugging along without changing anything. “Box Chevy” sonically follows the formula of “911″, “B.M.F”, and well, most of Rich Forever, but it still holds its own. For his upcoming Mastermind album, Ross drops a very high quality (think cinema quality) 9-minute short film for the single. Courtesy of your mom’s favorite website, WorldstarHipHop.

Talib Kweli – “Rocket Ships” (feat. Busta Rhymes)
With RZA on the track, it’s exactly what you’d expect. Bong. Prisoner of Conscious coming on Tuesday!

Jay-Z – “100$ Bill”
While on a non-stop quest to have his hand in everything hip and cool, Jay-Z also took a moment to executive-produce the “Great Gatsby” soundtrack. It contains many modern favorites like Andre 3000, The xx, Lana Del Rey, Gotye, and Jay-Z’s favorite artist Jay-Z.

Chance The Rapper – “Acid Rap” (Stream / Download)

Chicago emcee, Chance The Rapper dropped his aptly-named second mixtape earlier this week. I’m new to Chance, but I’m digging it so far. This tape includes features from new-school favorites Ab-Soul, Childish Gambino, and Action Bronson, among others. Check out “Everybody’s Something”, with uses a slowed interpolation of Slum Village’s “Fall In Love.” So, it literally sounds like Dilla on acid. And I like it. The sound, not acid…

While you’re here, also check out the new video for “Smoke Again” with Ab-Soul. I like how they’re stunting in the parking lot in a 2007 Toyota Camry. I can totally relate.

You would think that after the initial and MONUMENTAL backlash to the release of “I Hit It First,” Ray J would fall back. You would be wrong. This dude doubled-down and filmed a video. Then tripled-down and got a damn celebrity look-a-like in video with his stupid smug face. Uggggh, now I actually feel sorry for Kim Kardashian. Ray J made ME feel sorry for Kim Kardashian! I need to go lay down…
