MusicandModeling.com was invited to cover the finale showcase of the 5th Annual “Favore” Style Exhibition, an annual three-day fashion and networking event that took place in Columbia, SC. The fashion extravaganza showcased multi-talented clothing designers and featured celebrity designer Ra’Mon Lawrence from season six of Project Runway.
Check out the video below for photo and video footage we pieced together from this nothing short of amazing event. We’re definitely looking forward to attending next year’s Style Exhibition.
We recently caught up with R&B group Hamilton Park in ATL. Check out the interview with Harrell Record’s first signed artists.
Q: Tell us the story behind the name,Hamilton Park.
Chris Voice: Hamilton Park is a park on the east side of Atlanta, GA. It’s where we used to hang out and play ball together. I met Mr. Marcus and Anthony singing in the youth choir and they introduced me to Royce P. When we decided to be a group, we took on that name simply because of all the time we spent there.
Q: How long have you been singing before being signed to Atlantic?
Mr. Marcus: We’ve been singing 4 or 5 years, honing our skills before we showed anyone, because we didn’t want to be exposed at the wrong time.
Q: Does the Computer Love video accurately tell the story about being discovered by Andre Harrell?
Anthony: Yeah, it was definitely a true story. Really, Andre Harrell was in Atlanta with Radio One doing the “Superstar Soul Search” and a radio personality asked him if he’d heard of Hamilton Park. Andre Harrell then called us in for an audition. Basically, he gave us a time limit to audition for him. He liked what he saw and now we’re right here doing this interview with MUSICandMODELING.com. [laughter] It’s been a wonderful experience.
Q: Was it a one-on- one audition?
Anthony: It was us, Hamilton Park, L7 Entertainment, and Andre. We sung the national anthem for him. So like I said, it was a wonderful experience being able to interact with him on somewhat of a one-on-one basis. He gave us a lot of good insight.
Q: Were you guys under any pressure, being that it was Andre Harrell?
Anthony: You know, a lot of people ask us that.
Royce P: I don’t really think there was too much pressure. We were prepared. For the most part we were just like, wow, we have Andre Harrell in here. So, let’s make sure we do our best.
Q: There haven’t been a lot of male R&B groups out lately. So what groups does Hamilton Park respect and feel influenced by?
Mr. Marcus: It’s funny that you said that because the last group that actually did anything was a group from Atlanta, like Jagged Edge and 112. And we’re from Atlanta, so that’s pretty major to us.
Chris Voice: We’re definitely influenced by all the Atlanta groups, from Jagged Edge to 112. And then there’s Jodeci, New Edition, Guy…
Anthony: Commissioned.
Chris Voice: Definitely Commissioned. Other influences for me personally are Michael Jackson and Musiq Soulchild.
Q: When people think of the group, Hamilton Park, what do you want their next thought to be?
Mr. Marcus: If you’re going to take anything away from Hamilton Park, take away our conviction. We sing to the heart. We give our heart expecting the heart back in return.
Anthony: Just to piggy back on that, it’s just like being in your grandmother’s kitchen. You have your cornbread, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, candied yams…
Royce P: Sweet Tea
Anthony: Yeah. It’s just real, feel good, southern music. You know what I mean? We like to think of ourselves as connoisseurs of love, and bringing love back into R&B and into the bedroom where it’s supposed to be.
Royce P: Tasteful but graceful.
Q: Where can people find you online?
Chris Voice: Our official website is hamiltonparkmusic.com. Our twitter name is @Hamilton_Park, and you can go there to find our personal twitter pages, if you want. Our Facebook is facebook.com/hamiltonpark.
Q: And on Twitter do you guys reply back to your fans?
Chris Voice: Oh yeah.
Hamilton Park: If you follow us we’re going to follow you. [laughter]
Mr. Marcus: Make sure ya’ll check us out on the Scream Tour too.
